Khabib Nurmagomedov will not be stripped of his title: UFC president

Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White confirmed that his organisation will not strip Khabib Nurmagomedov of his light weight title which he successfully defended against Conor McGregor, MMA has reported.

“He absolutely keeps his title,” White said on Tuesday. “He’s going to get suspended, so maybe you give him a four-to-six month suspension.”

The UFC president said that that keeping the entire paycheck of the Russian fighter “should not happen”. “You should not be able to keep his whole purse. I think they should take $250,000 from him,” he said.

Nurmagomedov made McGregor submit in the fourth-round of the much-awaited fight at UFC 229 on October 7. He then went on to attack McGregor’s camp following the fight.

As chaos ensued outside the ring, a dazed McGregor was ambushed in the octagon.

Nurmagomedov, during his post-fight press conference, said that his opponent had targeted his religion and country before the fight.

“He talked about my religion, he talked about my country, he talked about my father,” Nurmagomedov said. “He came to Brooklyn and he broke [a] bus. He almost killed a couple people. Worry about this [expletive]. Why people talk about I jump on cage? Why people still talk about this? I don’t understand [sic].”

The Nevada Athletic Commission launched an investigation into the brawl and the paycheck of the Russian mix martial artist has been withheld.
